Katika uthibitisho tunapokea karama za Roho Mtakatifu na kuthibitisha ahadi zetu za ubatizo. Ufahamu mkubwa zaidi wa neema ya Roho Mtakatifu hutolewa kupitia upako wa mafuta ya krism na kuwekewa mikono na Askofu.
Confirmation perfects Baptismal grace; it is the sacrament which gives the Holy Spirit in order to root us more deeply in the divine filiation, incorporate us more firmly into Christ, strengthen our bond with the Church, associate us more closely with her mission, and help us bear witness to the Christian faith in words accompanied by deeds. (CCC 1316)
Through the Sacrament of Confirmation we renew our baptismal promises and commit to living a life of maturity in the Christian faith. As we read in the Lumen Gentium (the Dogmatic Constitution of the Church) from the Second Vatican Council:
Bound more intimately to the Church by the sacrament of confirmation, [the baptized] are endowed by the Holy Spirit with special strength; hence they are more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith both by word and by deed as true witnesses of Christ. Katika Matendo ya Mitume tunasoma juu ya kuja kwa Roho Mtakatifu siku ya Pentekoste. Wakati ubatizo ni sakramenti ya maisha mapya, kipaimara huzaa maisha hayo. Ubatizo hutuanzisha Kanisani na kututaja kama watoto wa Mungu, ambapo uthibitisho unatuita sisi kama watoto wa Mungu na hutuunganisha kikamilifu zaidi kwa utume hai wa kimasiya wa Kristo ulimwenguni. Baada ya kupokea nguvu za Roho Mtakatifu siku ya Pentekoste, Mitume walitoka nje na kuwathibitisha wengine, wakionyesha uthibitisho wa kuwa mtu binafsi na sakramenti tofauti: Petro na Yohana huko Samaria (Matendo 8:5-6, 14-17) na Paulo huko Efeso (Matendo 19:5-6). Pia Roho Mtakatifu alishuka juu ya Wayahudi na Wamataifa sawa katika Kaisaria, kabla ya ubatizo wao. Kwa kutambua hili kama uthibitisho wa Roho Mtakatifu, Petro aliamuru kwamba wabatizwe (rej. Matendo 10:47).
